CLASSIC WHITE SNEAKERS | Why everyone needs a pair in their wardrobe

Classic white sneakers are absolutely necessary in every wardrobe. These are one pair of shoes that I don’t believe you can do without. Why would you when there’s so many reasons to love them, anyways?

Today I’m talking about my Vans from Union Jack Boots. I’ve been wearing them for the past three days straight – each time with a different outfit (obviously) – and I’ve found that they work with every #ootd I throw on. No joke.

Here I’ve paired them with my favourite pair of distressed denim, which are getting to be a bit old (A.K.A. distressing in areas you don’t want distressed) and I’ve been on the hunt for a new pair. I did these ones myself from a pair of thrift store jeans and think I’m going to have to search for a new pair very soon.

Also, how cool is my bell sleeve top? I’m obsessed with anything bell shaped and flared at the moment. I got it from Zara last week for $19. Yes, fast fashion at its finest. (At least it didn’t have a rodent sewn into it. Yikes.)

Okay, now let me convince you why I think everyone needs a pair of white sneakers.

Top 5 reasons to own classic white sneakers

1. They go with everything.

I’ve paired mine here with my fave ripped jeans, a Zara bell sleeve top and a DKNY denim choker but that’s just a one of a million different ways to style classic white sneakers. They pair just as well with shorts and a tank as they do with a flowy summer dress or wide leg trousers. Sneakers are a great way to give a more casual vibe to dressier outfits too.

2. They mould themselves into any style.

Think about all the different cliques that Janis Ian describes in Mean Girls. I would bet you anything that at least one person from each of those groups owned (and rocked) a pair of classic white sneakers. When they weren’t wear army pants and flip flops, that is.

3. They transform to fit the scenario.

You can wear them on the street, you can wear them out to eat. You can wear them at a bar, you can wear them near & far. Okay, I’ll stop with the Seuss-like rhyming, but it’s true. You can wear them anywhere, any place, any time.

4. They’re a good alternative to flats.

As someone who tries to steer clear of flats – sorry guys, they’re just not my thing – I love wearing sneakers. I have all kinds and colours of sneakers but my go-to is always a classic white pair. The reasons are all laid out in this post.

5. They never go out of style.

Think about it. Classic white sneakers have been in style since before Archie Andrews fought over Betty & Veronica at Riverdale High. I also remember that my mom wore a pair of white sneakers when I was a kid but they were no where near as cool as my Vans (sorry mom).

THRIFTY AND TRENDY | How to shop designer for less at Beacon’s Closet NYC

There’s no need to break the bank to look like a million bucks. Take it from me, I know how to get a good deal (credit that to the bargaining Peruvian in me). Besides, looking thrifty and trendy is easy when you’re shopping designer for less at Beacon’s Closet in New York City.

The turnover of people’s closets in NYC happens more often than us fashionistas in Canada can imagine. Wore a pair of Jimmy Choo patent heels once? Okay, time to toss – and luckily for us, they get tossed right into our ever-expanding wardrobes.

One woman’s last year Givenchy is another woman’s next week go-to!

How to shop designer for less at Beacon’s Closet

I happened to hit a particularly incredible time for shopping designer for less at Beacon’s Closet and walked away quite a satisfied shopper with my two new (well, new to me) pairs of heels and the coolest leather jacket I’ve ever seen.

First of all, you’ve got to be open to really looking through the entire store. It seems like a daunting task, and yes, it is, but it’s got to be done if you really want to find those hidden gems.

If you see something you love, JUST BUY IT. This isn’t the moment to take your sweet time deciding whether or not you really like something. This is the time to trust your gut feeling! Otherwise, when you come back it might be gone.

Come back to the store regularly for new items. People come to Beacon’s Closet every single day and drop off amazing items just waiting to be snatched up by their latest fashionista. YSL today, Balmain tomorrow!

Here are some of the items that I scored while shopping designer for less at Beacon’s Closet.

Thrifty and trendy: Marc Jacobs kitten heels, $29.

I spotted these Marc Jacobs heels as soon as I walked into the store and had them on for about 15 minutes walking around while I browsed other items. I knew I had to have them – but then I came across the YSL heels (see below). Which ones was I going to buy?! Well, that’s easy. With deals like this, buying both was totally the right decision.

Thrifty and trendy: Fringed leather jacket, $40.

I’ve been wanting a good leather jacket for a while but haven’t been able to find anything that I really loved. This one was love at first sight. As soon as I put it on, I knew it was coming home with me. The real thing that sealed the deal? The embossed leopard print on the collar and trim. I’m all about being the brand and this screams “The Lady-like Leopard”.

Thrifty and trendy: YSL caged heels, $45.

YSL. Need I say any more? When I spotted these gorgeous Yves Saint Laurent heels, I couldn’t let them go. I was a little hesitant about buying them because I’d already spent a lot and the price tag said $90 but I decided that what the hell, I’m almost 25 and I need a pair of caged YSL heels. The best surprise? Finding out they were 50% off!

TRAVEL REVIEW | Rimowa luggage from Toronto to London

I’ve done my fair share of travelling – although, not nearly enough – but I’ve never put much thought into the luggage that I take with me. For a recent trip to London, UK with VANE Airport Magazine I was able to step up my suitcase game with a set of Rimowa luggage and let me tell you, it made all the difference.

My editor thinks I’m completely insane because I smile more when talking about my Rimowa luggage than any guy I’ve been talking to on bumble.

Maybe I am, but if you’ve ever travelled with a set of Rimowa polycarbonate, patent red, grooved, Salsa Deluxe suitcases, you would understand.

First of all, it was a piece of cake to whip around the airport (and down the sidewalks of London on the way to the hotel) and the four wheels on the bottom made it really convenient to keep the suitcase right by my side while dashing from gate to gate instead of dragging miles behind me.

Secondly, it looks amazing. You can’t discount the visual appeal of your suitcase when you’re supposed to be travel blogging in style! It matched my dark red leather trench coat that I wore on the plane and the red accents all over London. Hello – the phone booths, buses, Pret-a-Manger takeaway coffee lids.

It also matched perfectly with my hotel room! What a coincidence. (Photo below.)

My other favourite feature of the Rimowa luggage was the inside packing system. There is tons of space in the pockets to fit smaller items and there’s an adjustable flap that closes over your belongings to make sure everything stays snug inside. The adjustable part came in extremely handy after making a few purchases up and down Oxford Street…

I would definitely recommend travelling with Rimowa for your next trip! There are heaps of different suitcases and features to choose from – you’re bound to find one that fits in with your travels and your travel wardrobe.

Rimowa has also launched the first ever digital check-in for your luggage – meaning you can check your bags from home and simply drop them off once you get to the airport. I’m hoping I’ll be able to test drive one of those to show you guys sometime too!
