Coming up with your very own fierce personal style can make getting dressed an absolute joy. It also makes you memorable, fashionable and utterly unique. If you haven’t already figured out what your style is, you could be wasting money on clothes—and seriously struggling to put outfits together. Well, my fiercely fashion-forward friends, the struggle is over.
One thing to keep in mind when you’re working out your fierce personal style is consistency. When you find your signature thing, stick to it. I love being recognized for my leopard prints! And you know why people recognize it? Because I’ve kept it consistent. You’ll hardly ever spot me at an event—or anywhere else—without some sort of wild print.
And now it’s time for you to have a fierce personal style too.
Turning Fierce Personal Style into a Signature Look
Make a mood board
The first thing you can do to come up with your very own personal style is make a mood board. A mood board will give you something to look at when you’re stuck on inspiration. Not only that, it gives you a way to notice patterns in the things you like. If you see lots of red on your board, you know you like that colour. Pay close attention and see what sort of styles and pieces you’re obsessed with so you can start to create looks around that.
Find the right words
Finding the right words to describe your style, or how you’d like your style to be can really help. For example, you might want to be vibrant and eccentric. Or maybe, classy and glam. Once you have a few words, commit them to memory and always come back to them when shopping. It’s okay to like a piece but not buy it because it doesn’t fit your overall style. Some things will lose their magic after a wear or two, and you’ll wonder why you bought them. It’s usually because they didn’t fit in with your fierce personal style.
Find people who inspire you
Finding people who inspire you when it comes to style is really easy. There are online influencers, and also fabulous articles where you can read all about celebrities and who/what they are wearing. However, don’t just pick one celebrity and copy them. Instead, pick a few you like and go for a mix of what they would wear. For some ferociously wild inspiration, check out my celebs wearing animal prints post.
Inspect your wardrobe
Check out your closet and look at the things you wear and don’t wear. Figure out why you like some things so much, and why you may not wear the other things as often. Keep this in mind when shopping so you know exactly how you tick when it comes to getting dressed. You don’t want to have something you absolutely love in your wardrobe that you never end up wearing! What a waste of valuable closet space.
Have a clear out
When you figure out which things you don’t wear, have a clear out. You’ll feel better when this weight has been lifted off your shoulders, and you can see exactly what you have to play. But please do not just toss things in the trash! Donate them to a local charity or thrift shop so they can find a new home. (Also, do you ever wonder where your clothes end up? Or is that just me?)
Document your outfits
When you find an outfit you really feel fierce in, document it. Take a picture, put it on Pinterest, Instagram or in a private album. Then, when you’re feeling stuck, you can look back and find an outfit you loved before. Make sure you pay attention to how you look and feel in your outfits. If you felt great in a plain t-shirt and jeans combo, then do it again! Me, I feel best when my fierce personal style has a bite of leopard, snake, zebra or tiger.
