There was a time in my life, believe it or not, that I wouldn’t have been caught dead wearing sneakers with a pretty dress. Or anything other than gym clothes, really. When it came to sneakers or stilettos, you were one thousand times more likely to see me strutting my stuff in high heels. However, things have changed in a major way.
Nowadays, I reserve my extensive stiletto collection for parties, dates and office hours. If I know that the majority of my time is going to be spent sitting, then I’ll definitely opt for a statement stiletto. But if there is a lot of walking or standing involved, I’m more inclined to lace up a pair of fashion-forward sneakers.
However, no matter which style you choose, there is always a fierce outfit to go with it. And here are two of my recent looks!
Sneakers or Stilettos: Two Ways to Fiercely Wear Both
Sneakers: comfortable, trendy & good for your feet
There’s that slimy word—comfortable—that no one wanted to hear in fashion, until now. There was once a time when you wouldn’t see a worldly fashion icon in anything less than 4 inches. Nowadays, it’s almost more common to see fashionistas in Nikes than Manolos. But why the switch? Are people more aware that heels are profoundly more damaging to your feet?
Well, for some, heels just don’t feel modern anymore. With many of us living extremely active, busy lifestyles, sneakers just make more sense. You can rule the world and wear comfortable sneakers. See? You really can have your cake and eat it too.
For this look, I styled my Vionic Walker Classic sneakers with a feminine skirt from Pradegal, an Unleash Your Beast leopard print wrap top, a vintage blazer and my cat eye micro-sunglasses.
Stilettos: elongate your legs, lift your butt & give you height
Don’t get it twisted—stilettos are far from being considered “over.” They’re just flying slightly under the radar these days. There are so many fabulous reasons to wear them. It’s just that we’re now aware of the harmful effects they can have on our bodies if we wear them too often.
Stilettos are no longer seen as a necessary part of a confidence outfit, but more as the cherry on top. If you happen to like cherries. Which, I do. And I still love wearing high heels when the outfit deserves them. Nowadays, I reserve them for date nights, fashion shows and photo shoots.
I decided to go for a wild, animal-printed look with these Cima leopard print stilettos from Cult of Coquette. How fierce are they? My skirt is thrifted from Value Village and my snakeskin top is from my newly discovered favourite Toronto-based brand, Pradegal. And last but not least, my fab rattan Ata clutch is from Amerii.
