When I look at myself in the mirror in the mornings (well, when I had a mirror) I think, “Does this look like something an off-duty 90s supermodel would wear?” You know the ones. The effortlessly cool glamazons—Cindy Crawford, Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Carla Bruni, Linda Evangelista. Do I need to go on? After all, who doesn’t instantly recognize their magazine-worthy outfits?
Models in magazines show off outfits that are anything but dull. So, first things first, your look has got to have a pop to it. I chose an abstract zebra trench coat as my pop. Then, I took it a step further with statement earrings, a mini purse & a coordinating zebra keychain. Of course, you don’t have to go as eccentric. But I love standing out when it comes to fashion.
A Guide to Wearing Magazine-Worthy Outfits
The first step in rocking magazine-worthy outfits is to be confident. Without sky-rocketing confidence, the outfit is going to swallow you up. I mean, do you want to wear it or do you want it to wear you? Yeah, that’s what I thought. Tell yourself you look fierce! After all, you do.
Second, choose something that you love. Loving what you’re wearing is half the battle. One time, my girlfriend tried to make me wear one of her dresses that she looked amazing in. However, when I tried it on, I felt more like Carrie Bradshaw falling on the Dolce & Gabbana runway than a Street Style Queen. Again, this is tying into your confidence.
And last but not least, take lots of photos. If you’re pretending to wear an editorial look then you might as well document it. And ferociously pose in it. Taking photos of your outfits can also help see what works and what doesn’t. Snap a few pics on your phone and then make some magazine-inspired memories with a film camera. Click, flash, baby!

Bottom line: Strut with the knowledge that you’re a fierce mamacita and nothing can get in your way. You’re a gorgeous, independent, power woman who can dress however she pleases.
