What I’ve Learned Living Without a Full-Length Mirror for 3 Months

I’m willing to bet that you have a full-length mirror. Don’t you? Well, so do I. Or at least I used to—until it broke. For the past three months I’ve been living without one. It’s been extremely difficult yet oddly freeing at times. I’m absolutely going to get a new one, I just haven’t gotten around to it.

One night, I came home really late and I was exhausted. All I could think about was crawling into bed and falling asleep. Except, as soon as I opened my front door, my full-length mirror came crashing off the wall and smashed on the ground. Well, I was awake then. And I was super annoyed. I mean, come on! It had been perfectly secure since I moved in.

Anyway, what’s done is done. I have a new full-length mirror picked out from Structube but unfortunately it’s out of stock. I’m patiently waiting for the “back in stock” email so I can check out my outfits again. However, I’ve learned a few things through living semi-blindly.

1. Trust your outfit intuition

Over these blind months, I’ve learned to trust my outfit gut. While I’ve perhaps been a little less experimental than if I can peep my look from head-to-toe, I now have a rotation of outfits that I know really work. I’ve especially become fonder of my suits. God, I love a good two-piece suit. There are some pieces in my wardrobe that are being neglected right now, but once I get my mirror back, they’ll be in full rotation.

2. The less make-up, the better

For some reason, since spending less time on my outfit, I’ve also been spending less time on my make-up. I used to use my full-length mirror for getting dressed and doing my make-up in the morning. Now that I can’t do either, I’ve had to switch things up. I’ve actually started wearing less make-up than before. Weird, right? But a total time-saver.

3. Your appearance isn’t everything

When you’re heading out to meet your friends, your outfit really isn’t that important. Of course you want to look good but it’s not everything. I’ve been able to get ready quicker and let’s be real, your friends want to hang out with you because of you, not your outfit. And if they’re only hanging out with you because of your clothes, then it’s time to reevaluate.

Oh, and also: I no longer believe that broken mirrors = bad luck. My life isn’t over, my luck hasn’t changed and overall, things are good. So, take that superstitions!
