It’s no secret that animal prints are having their moment right now. As a matter of fact, they’ve been having a moment since 1998 when Christina Aguilera rocked a VMAs leopard print look on the red carpet. From there we saw Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton and most recently Rita Ora rock leo ensembles. The jungle is wild, ferocious and ready to pounce—on an award, that is.
So, will the wild leopard print trend continue after this year’s MTV VMAs? Of course. Let’s take a look at 13 of the fiercest animal print looks from the awards show over the years.
13 of the Fiercest VMAs Leopard Print Looks
1. Christina Aguilera, 1998
Okay but seriously—how cute was Xtina back in the day?! I’m not a fan of hot pink, but I am loving the clashing leopard prints.
2. Rita Ora, 2018
Hell yes Rita Ora! For this VMAs leopard look she wore a ‘fit straight from the Tom Ford runway. Normally this kind of thing would get a vote of tackiness from me but somehow it… works.
3. Nicki Minaj, 2014
Although Nicki Minaj likes to come across as more of a bad bitch, I love this vintage-inspired leopard look. She looks seriously classy!
4. Paris Hilton, 2007
If Paris Hilton wasn’t your style icon in the early 2000s, we can’t be friends. Especially if you didn’t idolize her leopard looks.
5. Lindsay Lohan, 2005
Awe, I loved Lindsay in this era. Fresh off of Mean Girls and soaking up that super sweet fame. As Gretchen Weiners might say, she looks so fetch.
6. Charli XCX, 2014
The VMAs aren’t only about leopard prints! I love that Charli XCX rocked this ultra-fierce, off-the-shoulder tiger outfit.
7. Katy Perry, 2013
I can’t believe Katy Perry’s leopard dress is from 2013! I literally thought it was last year. Time flies when you’re obsessing over leopard prints.
8. Halsey, 2016
Simple but vibrant, Halsey definitely takes leopard print to another level.
9. Gwen Stefani, 2005
What’s more classic than leopard prints & a red lip? It’s been a look that’s defined sophistication for forever. And Gwen Stefani knows it.
10. Arielle Vandenberg, 2017
Personally, I wouldn’t have paired this with the lace body suit, but whatever. I’m completely obsessed with the suit and I need one.
11. Kim Petras, 2018
I wish Kim had taken this look directly from the runway with Moschino’s matching thigh high boots, but what can you do? As she stated in her insta, she’s giving us “Pebbles.”
12. Cynthia Watros, 2014
A metallic zebra dress was a fun switch up from a classic leopard print.
13. Miley Cyrus, 2011
This Roberto Cavalli dress that Miley Cyrus is rocking combines the perfect amount of “fierce” and “feminine” with its animal prints and florals.
Do you leo lovers know of any other fierce VMAs leopard print looks? And more importantly: if you were attending the MTV Video Music Awards, would you wear leopard print?
Stay fierce!
