Okay, first of all, let’s be honest. When I say social media free I really mean just one platform and the one that didn’t make the cut is Snapchat. I’m far too addicted to go cold turkey on the others and give it up completely. Plus, it’s good for my blog. However, I felt myself starting to be controlled by social media and that was an immediate red flag.
When you’re out with your friends and instead of listening to what they’re saying you’re focusing on filming your “story”, that’s a problem – at least for me.
Why a Mysterious and Social Media Free Life is Better
I’m over it.
Does anyone even care if they see you brushing your teeth? Or want to know what time you went to bed and what time you woke up – multiple times when you couldn’t sleep? Do they care to watch your feet walking down a sidewalk (#viewfromthetop)? Or enjoy watching you lip sync – I am so guilty of this – your way through Destiny Fulfilled?
Or do we just think we care?
All I know is that with one less channel of social media to worry about showing the world that I live a perfect life (I really don’t) I feel like I have more time for actually living and feel better about not having regrets that I didn’t capture that perfect mochaccino I had this afternoon.
And before anyone gets all crazy defending social media and all that jazz, I am well aware that you control how much you post and what you share and blah, blah, blah. But I’m just saying, I’d rather just not even be bothered. A little mystery is fabulous.
I’ve now been happily social media free for months. I still get friends asking when I’m getting Snapchat back. The truth? Probably never. I love being mysterious too much.
