My secret to creating a unique personal style (here’s a clue: be you)

I’m always looking for new ways to personalize my style. It’s too easy to bump into someone who’s wearing the exact same top – embarrassing! I’m lucky enough to be able to blog about some of the coolest new fashions and accessories, so I know the inside secrets. But the truth is that fashion is all about your own personality. Finding a unique style is something that only you can decide. Today, I’ll help point you in the right direction, and you can find a unique and personal style that works for you.

Channel your personality

Fashion isn’t about what you wear, it’s about how you wear it. You can choose the most fashionable item on the market, but if it doesn’t match your personality, it won’t work. If you can’t wear it with confidence, the outfit falls apart. Use your fashion style as an extension of your personality. Are you bright, bubbly and outgoing? Then channel that with bold styles, and head-turning outfits. If you’re more refined and sophisticated, stick with simple, elegant styles. Use different cultures in your style, and make the most of you.

Vintage shops

It’s the oldest trick in the book, but it still works! If you buy all your clothes from TopShop, H&M or Zara, you are going to run into someone wearing the same as you. It’s just a matter of time. A pair of trousers here and there is totally fine, but you need some unique clothes to really make a difference. Try hitting the vintage shops in your town. There are always a few hiding somewhere! Here you’ll find lots of hidden gems, each with their own quirky, unique style. It takes a good eye to find something that works for you, but when you see it, you’ll know.

Every stylist knows that the devil is in the details. If you want to create a truly unique look, your answer is in the accessories. You can wear a simple outfit, and make a real impact with the right extras. A carefully chosen belt, stunning shoes, or unique jewellery. A lot of girls are even using coloured lenses as one of their fashion accessories. Anything you can do to personalize your style and make it your own is a good thing!

Remodel your current clothes

Most people tend to think you have to spend thousands to look good. The most creative fashionistas know differently! If your wardrobe is feeling uninspiring, try remodeling your existing clothes. Cut your old jeans into shorts or three-quarters. Take the sleeves off a t-shirt to make it a vest. Get creative, and make something completely personal and unique.

Hair and makeup

You can change your whole style with just a few hair and makeup tricks. Every time you do something different, you give yourself a new look. try a different lipstick or eyeshadow colour. You’ll instantly create a new style. You can do the same by styling your hair in new ways. Start experimenting, and see what you can make work.

My most important piece of advice? Don’t be afraid to experiment! Match bold colours that aren’t supposed to go together. Break the rules. If you wear it with confidence, that’s all that matters.
