Moroccan oils, coconut oils, dry shampoo, leave in conditioners—where do we begin? Well, first by taking a huge chunk out of our bank accounts to follow each up & coming hair benefiting trend. Tell your Marc by Marc Jacobs black leather wallet to stop quivering. We’ve got the answer: salon worthy hair care on a dime.
Guest beauty blogger Kayla Basler tells us how to get magnificent manes with the price of a single avocado. (Little bonus: Eat half the avocado for lunch and use half for your hair.)
3 Ways to Get Salon Worthy Hair Care
on a Dime
Nourish your hair naturally
A good way to do a nourishing treatment on a budget is by using the natural ingredients you already have in your kitchen. For example, try making your own hair mask using half an avocado and one egg yolk. Combine the mixture in a blender and then apply to the hair in a shower cap for 15-20 minutes. Afterwards, rinse out and wash normally with shampoo. The great thing about this mask is that it’s natural, inexpensive and convenient – since many of us have avocados and eggs already.
Get creative
Itching for a summer blonde? Try honey! It’s a really simple way of getting lighter hair by using a common household staple. The steps are really easy – mix four parts honey and one part water, and add a few capfuls of hydrogen peroxide for an even lighter colour. Let the mixture sit out for 30-60 minutes and afterwards apply the mixture to your hair in a shower cap for 2 hours before washing out. Try experimenting on little strands of hair first before trying it all over. It’s definitely worth it and has a lot less chemicals than regular hair dyes.
Ask the amateurs
If you’re more into letting the professionals take care of your hair, make a trip to a local beauty school. Beauty schools usually provide services that are cheaper than a regular salon because students need to practice their skills. If you’re afraid they are going to make a mistake on your hair, don’t worry because the students are supervised by a professional teacher to ensure the work is done properly!
